BREEAM (Building Research Establishment’s Environmental Assessment Method) is the leading sustainability assessment for buildings. It works on a credit system encouraging environmental performance. Some types of new development are required to obtain an excellent or above BREEAM score, additionally local planning authorities can condition a BREEAM assessment as part of planning permission.
CfSH (Code for Sustainable Homes) is the government owned standard for sustainable house building. Although it has been withdrawn in England, legacy cases remain and will require assessment. Additionally the Welsh Government continues to require a CfSH assessment for all new housing funded by the Welsh Government or located on land under Government ownership.
Both assessments involve an ecologist visiting the site to assess the baseline conditions. Back in the office an assessment of change in ecological value between the current baseline and the proposed plan for the site will be undertaken.
We will provide you with an ecology report detailing the results of the assessment and advising on how to maximise land use and ecology credits. We will also complete the BREEAM form on how to relate an ecology report to BREEAM credits.
